Interview with Emergency Gate

Emergency Gate's new album came out on February this year, and with a unique blend of elments this release was very interesting. We we able to get an interview with Daniel and this is what he had to say about the band's latest album among other things:

Infernal Masquerade: Thanks for taking the time to answer this interview, and let’s get started with the questions:

Infernal Masquerade: “Rewake” marks Emergency Gate’s third album, how do you think the bands music has evolved through out these 3 releases?  What do you think has been the bands biggest improvement since the “Night Ray” album?

Daniel: "Rewake" is a pun made of "awake" and "reborn" so it speaks for itself. Our new album is more modern, more death metal and even more electrical due to some industrial-programming-parts so it’s probably not reasonable to compare our new album with the old one.

I.M: The band’s sound has a very fresh mixture of genres, is this provided by input from all band members during the album’s writing process? Or is there a band member who is the mastermind behind the band’s fresh sound? (Please elaborate if possible)

Daniel: Except for the opener "Double Suicide" which was written by Udo, our new Lead-Guitarist, Vlad, our rhythm-guitarist, was the composer and writer for the whole album. But during the recordings everyone of the band improved the sound with new ideas

I.M: What is the concept (or ideas) behind the “Rewake” album?

Daniel: There is indeed a big idea behind the album and the lyrics.
It isn’t really a concept-album but there is a clue set forth trough the twelve tracks.
This clue is based on happenings in Vlad´s life but can be found in nearly every other live. It’s not a big fantasy-story or something but just situations and feelings which we all (hopefully) have in the first 30 years of our lives. So it´s very interesting for us how people interpret the lyrics.

I.M: What has changed in the band’s music writing process since your first self-titled release?

Daniel: The first release was more likely a compilation of songs from the rehearsal room and the live-set. The new stuff is more sophisticated for it is accrued in a short period. The songs are more tuned to one another as in the first two releases.

I.M: There have been some member changes throughout the years, how do you think this has impacted the band and / or shaped the direction of the bands music?

Daniel: We came back with a new Band, three new members: Matthias our new singer, Udo our new lead-guitarist and me Daniel on the keys  and with each new member comes new influences, as you can read in the first answer our music turned more modern, more death metal and more electrical.

I.M: Are you currently satisfied with the job that your label Silverwolf is doing as far as promotion and distribution for the new album?

Daniel: Of course they do a great job for us.

I.M: What’s in store for Emergency Gate in the future?
Daniel : We hope that we can continue realizing our musical ideas and playing in front of many meatheads.

I.M: Any band members involved in other projects?

Daniel: Matthias played at SuidAkra and is the mastermind of Still it Cries..
Mario is doing the management for different bands, and he works as sound engineer.
All other band members are doing a lot of other music as well but not within other bands

I.M: The band will be performing in several festivals this summer. Do you have any other dates that are not yet revealed? What festival are you guys looking forward to perform on?
Daniel: We are principally very glad to play any festival no matter how size, but the Summer-nights-festival in Austria is one of the bigger festivals this summer also we will play on the Wacken South Festival and many more.

I.M: If the band had unlimited budget for stage props, what would you guys use? and why?

I don’t think that Emergency Gate is a FX-Band. We don’t need a big pyro-show, castles made of Styrofoam or something. We would be more than satisfied if we always had a stage where Matthias, our singer, can run as fast and as much as he wants. The important thing is to bring 100% on stage that the people could say its a great band.

I.M: What do you guys think about Guitar Hero and Rock Band video games? Do you think they are ‘accurate’ at representing how a real instrument is played?
Daniel: You can’t get gold-coins for jumping on mushrooms just because you finished Super Mario Broths on the hardest setting. It is just a game, maybe a nice game with fucking great rock and metal music but nothing more. I’m as good as our guitarist but without much knowing of how to play guitar.

I.M: Anything else that you guys want to add for our readers in the US and the world?
Daniel: Thanks for the support, especially on tour we recognized how fucking awesome the metal scene is. For everybody in the US who was not able to see us live, stay metal and stay tuned we are surely going to play in the states... hopefully soon!! We working hard to come to US.

Thanks again for the interview, and good luck this summer on your shows!

Thank you too
