Interview with Skyfire

In the eve of the release of "Esoteric" the band's latest full lenght album in 5 years, we managed to sneak by a brief interview with Martin Hanner. Here is the transcript of what he had to say about the new album, and what to expect from the band's evolution in the last 5 years.

Infernal Masquerade: It’s been 5 years since your last full length album “Spectral” what has happened in between and why did it took the band 5 years to release a new album?

M.H: We had a few lineup changes and we also decided to take our time when it came down to shopping for a new label. Then once we signed with Pivotal Rockordings, we began work on Esoteric. There were some delays during the process, but overall, I’d say the wait should be worth it for the fans.

I.M: How do you think the band’s sound has evolved since the release of “Spectral” to “Esoteric”?

M.H: The orchestra and choir arrangements and the guitar solos are the biggest evolutions, I’d say. We’ve also reverted back a bit to our Timeless Departure days, but without repeating ourselves of course.

I.M: What is the overall concept/idea behind “Esoteric”?

There really isn’t any overall concept. The album is up to the fans to interpret!

I.M: How do you guys expect for fans and press to react to the new album?

M.H: I hope they enjoy it, because we certainly do. We put a lot of effort into writing this album and I hope the fans appreciate that. So far the press has had nothing but good things to say about the album and I hope it continues hehe.

I.M: Your cover from “Esoteric” is pretty interesting; can you tell us what does it represent?

M.H: That’s really up to you to interpret. It’s a guy being initiated into a cult, but he’s either in pain from being burned, or he’s achieved the power he sought in order to join the cult!

I.M: Any touring planned in support of “Esoteric”?

M.H: We have a UK tour in November and hopefully more European touring in the winter/spring. Nothing for the US right now though.

I.M: Why did you guys signed with Pivotal Recordings, how is the label treating you?

M.H: They’ve been treating us better than any label we’ve ever worked with and they’re doing a great job so far. Finally I can sleep easy!

I.M: Any other things you wanted to add for your fans and our readers of the USA?

M.H: Thank you for sticking by us for all these years! I hope you enjoy the album!

I.M: Thanks for the interview!.

M.H: No problem! Thank you!
