Ingrimm – Böses Blut (2010)

cover

With a very Germanic sound to their music, today we have Ingrimm and their third full-length album “Böses Blut”. Playing a mean Folk/Medieval Metal, the band does a great job in creating 11 songs that will surely please all your Folk/Medieval needs. All songs in this album are sung in German and give that extra authentic feeling to them that we usually look for.

Mixing modern metal style riffing with bagpipes sounding awfully familiar to Eluveitie, the band might not be 100% original in their craft, but as long as their songs are catchy we don’t really care. Ingrimm’s music is not super diverse either and you will find yourself wondering if you already heard this song before.

Starting of by the vocals, we must say that the clean vocals give that epic feeling to the music instantly. However, the harsh vocals sometimes leave a lot to be desired since they sound a bit off in some moments. We think that the band could have done without harsh vocals and still retain an aggressive sound based on their music.

The second thing to notice is the guitar work, sometimes the riffing is straight from a modern metal/nu metal release, and other times it has very rock edge to it. We think that this alone gives the band an interesting sound and provides them with uniqueness to their sound. The song writing is very catchy and well crafted while not extremely complex or over saturated with Folk elements.

As far as the bagpipes go, we love this instrument and even though it sounds fairly familiar to other bands of the genre, it gets the job done in creating the right atmosphere. The drumming on the other hand is fairly standard and sounds good, but it’s nothing to write home about. This allows the overall sound of the band to shine, but keeps things tidy in this department.

In general, we like “Böses Blut” as much as the majority of Folk/Medieval Metal releases to hail from Germany. All of these German bands have a very unique sound to them when compared to Scandinavian bands and Ingrimm has captured it perfectly. If you are looking for a solid release in this genre, you can definitely buy “Böses Blut” and get your money’s worth.
