Doro – 25 Years In Rock (2011)

cover

After some years in the pipeline, fans will finally get to have in their hands the double DVD/CD boxed set of 25 anniversary show of the queen of metal: Doro Pesch. While we are reviewing only the CD portion of this legendary show full of guest appearances, we are supper excited to get to see the DVD portion once it is released in North America.

In terms of the CD only we are a bit disappointed by the track selection (CD only has 10 tracks and one intro), but it does cover some of Doro’s greatest hits and also is missing a lot of the newer ones. Also, only a few of the guest appearances made it into the CD (3 out of the 10 tracks), making it pale in comparison to the actual live DVD’s.

Talking about this CD, all songs recorded are top notch and feature crystal clear audio. If the DVD has 5.1 Audio, it will be even better. While live CD’s in the past had tons of problems and many of the sounded like ass, in the last few years we have been give some amazing audio quality and excellent footage, particularly from Nuclear Blast releases (Edguy, Amorphis, etc). We are very pleased to hear Doro almost the same way you would get to hear her at a live show, and this is excellent.

The track list includes: “Earthshaker Rock”, “I Rule The Ruins”, “You’re My Family”, “Herzblut”, “Unholy Love” (featuring Honza K. Behunek), “East Meets West” (featuring Chris Boltendahl and Axel Rudi Pell), “Burn it Up”, “Above the Ashes”, “Celebrate” (featuring Classen, Floor Jansen, Liv Kristine, Ji-In Cho, Liv Jagrell, Jackie Chambers, Enid Williams) and “Breaking the Law” from Judas Priest. So as you can read there are some big ones missing.

While most things are great with this CD, we do not fully like the crowd interaction with people in German through the songs. We understand Doro was at home, but for the people that don’t know German might be a bit frustrating (but authentic for sure), hopefully the DVD is subtitled. Everything else in this portion of the release is top notch and this CD will make a great car stereo companion to the live DVD’s counterpart.
