Witchcraft – Legend (2012)

cover

The Swedish Psychedelic rockers of Witchcraft are finally back after five years since their last release, with a heavy hitting album titled “Legend”. In this highly anticipated release the band delivers nine tracks of excellent Psychedelic Rock that will propel them back into the top ranks of this re-emerging genre. Labeled as one of the bands that propelled the revival of the genre back in the mid 2000’s, Witchcraft shows their musical quality in every compelling song that they present in this release.

Featuring a heavier sound since the opener “Deconstruction”, the band delivers powerful Doom-ish riffs that are nicely adorned by Magnus Pelander’s excellent vocals. The Psychedelic vibe is immediately present with the funky guitar work and the drumming nicely rounds things up. Things really pick-up with the super catchy “It’s Not Because Of You”, indeed a very well-crafted track that features excellent vocals, intricate guitar work, and a super catchy chorus section. There is no doubt that this track is the indisputable first single of the release.

With a bit of a Southern twang, the Stoner tune “An Alternative to Freedom” nicely changes the pace of things with a very mellow and relaxed atmosphere, making it our favorite track of the release. The epic “White Light Suicide” has a very serious nature to it, making it quite an enjoyable track to chill out to. We particularly love the solemn vocals and the very well-crafted Doom-ish conclusion of the track with the pounding guitars.

Closing with “Dead End”, the band goes a bit experimental and delivers some weird mixture of their traditional Psychedelic sound with more Stoner/Sludge influences that make this song quite interesting and a very enjoyable 11 minute experience. Overall, “Legend” is a great comeback from Witchcraft and their almost entirely revamped line-up. The band has great skills when it comes to making Psychedelic music with a bit of an up-to-date vibe, creating a very unique sound for them. If you are into Psychedelic music and like production values (this is not your raw as fuck release) check out this album and we guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
