Doro – Raise Your Fist (2012)

cover

The queen of Metal Doro Pesch is back with yet another killer release that comes very close to trumping Accepts “Stalingrad” as the top Heavy Metal release of 2012. Doro is one of the most active and fan devoted musicians in Metal and the collection of heavy hitting hits delivered in “Raise Your Fist” is a true treat for anybody that has been following her since her days with Warlock.

Opening with the heavy-hitter “Raise Your Fist In The Air”, Doro sets the bar very high which such an energetic and catchy song. We can totally picture thousands of people raising their firsts and going crazy with this epic anthem on a live festival show. While ALL the songs in this release are excellent, the next highlight comes under the name of “It Still Hurts”, a power-ballad duet with none other than Lemmy from Motörhead. While we don’t get to hear his traditional raspy vocals, we still get a pretty unique and different side of his talents alongside Doro, what more can we ask for.

The next epic Metal anthem comes under the name of “Grab The Bull (Last Man Standing)”, a track that features none other than Gus G providing his abilities playing guitar. This song also has a pretty epic and moving chorus section than everybody will surely go crazy with it. We are huge fans of Doro singing in English and on “Engel” she does a great job while being accompanied by serious orchestral arrangements and excellent guitar work.

“Raise Your Fist” is indeed the heaviest album that Doro has ever released to date. With most songs being extremely catchy and with a pounding bass guitar line, we can’t help to love songs like “Revenge” and “Little Headbanger”. For those that prefer the mellow Doro, we have “Free My Heart” and “Victory”, with both songs featuring a slower pace and a bigger emphasis on the melodic/vocal side of things.

Our favorite track in this release is the emotionally charged song “Hero”. In this track dedicated to Ronnie James Dio, Doro delivers a very dramatic vocal performance while the band nicely provides their lush atmospheric elements to a very well written and totally majestic song. If you are a fan of Dio, Doro pays an excellent tribute to him with said closing track. In general, if you are looking for another excellent Heavy Metal album featuring the Queen of Metal, please don’t forget to pick up a copy of “Raise Your Fist” and be ready to keep that first up for the whole duration of this release.
