Lost In Alaska – Time of Solution (2012)

cover

Making its way from Russia, today we have Lost in Alaska and their head-smashing Deathcore sound. Delivering a three-song EP, this band has a sound similar to The Black Dahlia Murder, Oceano, etc., so you know it is pretty intense and well-crafted. For all fans of endless moshing to Core music, this is one release you don’t want to miss.

Opening with commanding guitar work, “The Inevitable Changes”, immediately shows the band’s heavy sound. As the sound warms up, the drumming is pretty solid and the vocal layering is quite crushing, allowing them to sound very brutal. The tempo changes are well-placed and help the song not sound extremely repetitive.

“Time Of Solution” keeps the punches rolling, with a very traditional Deathcore track that delivers textbook tempo changes and growling sections. Closing with “Pursuit of Happiness”, the band saved the best track for last since this one is a bit more diverse and entertaining than the first two songs. The band clearly loves other Deathcore bands and does a solid job in mimicking their sound, but they are still ways away from actually innovating and creating more engaging songs.

In general, for a Deathcore release, “Lost In Alaska” is quite decent. The band uses many elements from the greats of the genre and pulls them off quite nicely. However, if you are expecting any originality, then look somewhere else since this band is pretty much the same as the previously mentioned ones. We are not huge fans of the genre, and bands like Lost In Alaska greatly exemplify why they call related genres ‘Mallcore’ stuff, since it can just be produced on demand and it will all be the same.
