Frozen Ocean – Aokigahara (2011)

cover

Consisting of a monolithic track of 39 minutes, today we have Frozen Ocean and their 2011 release “Aokigahara”. Leaving their Black Metal elements to the side, this behemoth of a release explores the dark and cavernous realms of Dark Ambient/Drone music. Released through Le Crépuscule du Soir Productions, this is one Frozen Ocean release you should not miss for your collection.

We are not huge fans of Drone/Ambient release, but the single track presented in this release has a unique way of grabbing your attention thanks to the tension created by the sounds. With a very eerie Event Horizon vibe that only gets creepier as the track progresses.

By listening to this long song on a dark and rainy night, I think we have gathered new appreciation for the genre and will be digging up some older releases from other bands that might get the job done in such gloomy days. If you are into eerie and tense music that does not need blast-beats and drilling riffs to get the desired effect, look no further and check this release out.
