Pain – Coming Home (2016)

Musical genius Peter Tägtgren presents us today with the latest opus “Coming Home” from his side project Pain. As the first release in five years, Peter delivers 10 catchy and totally whacky tracks that perfectly continue the madness spread by this band. Mixing a very catchy Industrial vibe with heavy riffs, this release will have you fully engaged from start to finish.

Instantly enveloping the listener within the band’s madness, “Designed to Piss You Off” delivers the first catchy and funky piece of this release. Relying on playful lyrics and catchy percussions, this track has a certain Southern Rock charm to it. Featuring vocals from Joakim Brodén of Sabaton, “Call Me” is definitely one of the most engaging and dynamic songs in this release. The two vocalists provide a nice contrast to this song, making it superbly addictive.

With futuristic atmospheric arrangements, “A Wannabe” is one of our favorite tracks. Pain’s songs in this release are quite diverse and masterfully crafted for catchiness and enjoyment as we can hear with pieces like “Pain in the Ass”, “Black Knight Satellite” and our favorite “Coming Home”. Peter’s clean vocals do a great job in making the music more accessible, like anthemic “Absinthe Phoenix Rising”, which sound like something we would hear at a dive bar on a Monday evening.

With playful tracks filled with heavy riffs like “Natural Born Idiot” and “Starseed”, the band sounds like a cleaner and leaner version of outfits like Static X and even Linkin Park, but with the Tägtgren magic. As a whole, “Coming Home” is a pretty solid catchy release that will capture the listener’s attention with its unique music and funky lyrics. Perfectly following the traditional wackiness behind Pain, this album will please all fans of the band and surely grab a few more for them.
