Wolfpack 44 – The Scourge (2016)

cover

Hailing from the USA, today we have a very unique band under the moniker Wolfpack 44. Formed by members of Electric Helfire Club and Kult ov Azazel , the band plays a very unique blend of Industrial Black Metal with some experimental elements. Featuring over 45 minutes of music, this release will appeal to fans of bands like Mysticum, Aborym and Diabolos Rising.

After the disturbing atmospheric intro, the band unleashes its full power with the pummeling riffs and oppressive atmosphere of “The Black March”. Perfectly mixing incisive guitars, tight drums and superbly harsh vocals, this track sets a very brutal tone. Following with the completely deranged “Rituale Romanum” featuring Dana Duffey on guest vocals, the band makes it clear that this release will be a true roller coaster ride.

Featuring a start-studded cast, the most brutal track in this release is the bestial “Chamber of Nightmares (Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici)”, which features Dark Funeral’s guitarists Lord Ahriman and Chaq Mol. This release however, is far from linear, with tracks that don’t quite fit the Black Metal foundations as the Thrash-y “Dark Mountain”, the very mellow Dark Metal-esque “       By Serpents Beguiled”, and the experimental “To the Devil...a Daughter”, the band always keeps you guessing.

Closing with the psychosexual “The Enemy Below”, the band ends this unique release with a on a Diabolos Rising mood. Overall, “The Scourge” is a very unique release filled with heavy and strange songs that somewhat work perfectly together. Formed by excellent musicians, Wolfpack 44 seems to be still finding its unique identity while cranking out solid songs. If you like Industrial Black Metal with tons of experimental stuff, look no further and pickup this solid release.
