Dendrites – Dendrites (2016)

cover

Hailing from Greece, today we have Hard Rockers Dendrites and their self-titled debut release. Adding some elements of Groove Metal into the mix, this Greek outfit delivers ten superbly catchy tracks that will resonate in your head for days to come.

Opening with the momentum builder “The Wheel”, we are instantly very surprised on how ‘American’ does the band sound. The band’s vocalist and guitarist Thanasis Tiblalexis as a very distinctive voice which reminds us of Shady Blue of Chrome Division and Markus Hammer of The New Black. The band continues to totally rock with pretty solid tracks like “Breath”, “How Many Times”, and our personal favorite “Peace of Mind”.

Walking a very playful line between Groove Metal and Hard Rock, tracks like “Devilshead” are quite engaging and perfectly showcase the band’s fun attitude to the listener. The catchiness and playfulness of “Killer Smile of a Marionette” make it another one of our favorite tracks with its tight drums and funky bass guitar line.

As the band pummels through heavy hitter like “Whiskey Preachin’ Motherfuker” and the ripping bass guitar of “Sore throats and Bottlenecks”, we are pleasantly surprised with their command of the genre and their ability to craft unique songs that never get dull and always engage.

The album draws to a close with the melodramatic “Hold On”, a very fitting conclusion piece due to its mellow and restrained mood. Overall, “Dendrites” is a very promising debut release filled with catchy songs and solid instrumentation. The genre could use more creativity and this band shows some of the chops required to do so. If you like heavy hitting Hard Rock with a certain Southern Rock and Groove Metal influence, you are for a treat with Dendrites.
