Celestial Maze – Ashes Of Lost Seasons (2009)

cover

Celestial Maze is a one man band Gothic Rock / Shoegaze from Germany. Their newest album “Ashes Of Lost Seasons” is a very good example of how the previously mentioned genres can blend to create a very solid release.

Featuring over 45 minutes of music in 11 tracks this album showcases Marko’s talent in creating beautifully haunting music. His characteristic voice is one of the trademark features of this album.

The whole depressive feeling of this album is another thing that drew my attention to this release, since it achieves a very eerie atmosphere that I haven’t heard since the last release from Shellyz Raven.

The mixture of acoustic guitar with the distorted electric guitar riffs creates a sound that blends to perfection for Celestial Maze, while the album does not have the best production out there,  the sound captured is very interesting and appealing to the listener. The only thing that I can say I did not liked is how artificial the drum programming sounds, but once you get past that this album is one of the most interesting I have received in quite a while for this genre.

The different beats and rhythms within the songs provide enough difference between them for this album to not get dull and keep the listener paying attention in anticipation of how the next song is going to sound. The hypnotic voice of Marko carries this release from start to end and it’s one of my favorite things about this release.

Overall “Ashes Of Lost Seasons” is a very good release that blends Gothic Rock with Shoegaze elements unlike other bands that I’ve heard before. This is a very recommendable release for all fans of the previously mentioned genres. So stop reading this and head to the band’s website to get this release before is gone.
