Echoes Of Eternity – As Shadows Burn (2009)

cover

While many people decided to trash Echoes Of Eternity debut album “The Forgotten Goddess”, I was very surprised why a band would get trashed by attempting a very interesting mixture of musical genres (Gothic and Progressive Metal) and achieving a very good debut album.

The riffs on the band’s debut album were not the most original or complicated out there, also they were pretty repetitive but they still managed to get the job done in creating an original sound for a band that was breaking into the scene.

Two years have passed and Echoes Of Eternity is back with “As Shadows Burn” a very solid album that clearly continues where the band left off in their debut album. These Americans have managed to record another album that showcases their unique musical style and will greatly please all existing fans of the band, and hopefully they will gain many new followers.

The guitar work in “As Shadows Burn” is again not very original and extremely repetitive, but they still manage to create very powerful and catchy songs. The band’s progressive influences are very clear, but they would probably not hold by themselves if it wasn’t for Francine’s sweet vocals. This element is what makes the band’s sound and makes the whole combination very respectable.

Technically the band is pretty solid, and in my opinion, their best musician is the drummer since he manages to play very tightly and gives the perfecta pace to all songs. The guitar work just flows with the drum track and while not super original or complicated it has pretty solid moments and great changes.

All songs in this album have a very similar feeling to each other, but this never gets on the way of fully enjoying this album. The album also features a crystal clear production that allows the listener to catch and enjoy every small detail that the band worked into the songs.

“As Shadows Burn” is a very good album that builds on top of the band’s ground work laid with “The Forgotten Goddess”. If you liked their debut album, you will love this new release.
