Vader – Necropolis (2009)

cover

When it comes to bands playing Death/Trash Metal in these days, my band of choice has always been Vader. They have managed to release very solid albums since 1993, and while not extremely ‘different’ from each other, they are still pretty brutal and melodic at the same time.

The only problem I’ve had with Vader over the years is that when I see them live, they are always sub-par compared to their albums. The production on the albums makes their music sound better, or they are just stuck with a shitty sound engineer when playing live, since I’ve seen them several times over the years and I’m always dissatisfied with their live sets.

Aside from that note, “Necropolis” provides us with 11 tracks of very riff oriented Death/Trash Metal that will surely please all the fans of the band. All songs are very riff oriented and Peter Wiwczarek is wizard at creating catchy riffs being Death Metal or Trash Metal centric, he has great ideas for both.

Like I previously said, the riffs are what make most of the albums songs not sound extremely similar, like many bands of the genre, and provide enough freshness between them to keep the album very enjoyable from start to end.

Recording everything except the drums, you can clearly see how the guitar work and the bass guitar work comes together to create brutal yet melodic songs that will blow you away. The raspy vocals are one of the trademarks of this band, and they sound as good as ever in “Necropolis”. Lastly, the drums are perfectly executed and hold the songs together very nicely, providing with interesting changes in the pace of the music, and going up to 200 miles per hour when required.

If you are a fan of Vader, this album will surely please you since the band keeps doing their own thing very consistently when compared to their earlier releases. If you are a new metal fan, this album will also be a good starting point in your journey to discover quality music.
