Age Of Evil – Get Dead (2009)

cover

Hailing from the USA we get this very young and promising Heavy/Trash Metal band called Age Of Evil. Most band members can’t legally but a drink but they can rock the shit out of many bands of this genre.

“Get Dead” is the band’s latest release that features 2 new songs (“Cruel Intentions” and “Get Dead”), as well as a few covers (“Slave To Grind” of Skid Row and “Electric Eye” from Judas Priest), and 2 live songs. You can clearly see the Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and even some Metallica influences in the band’s sound.

Usually in an EP that features only 2 new songs you can’t really tell what a band is about. However you can clearly see that Age Of Evil is a force to be reckoned since they have very solid song writing skills, they render great cover songs and they have very impressive live skills. I’ll be surprised if this band lasts any longer without being signed by a label.

Going back to the music, the band has clear influences of the old school Heavy Metal scene as well as some Trash Metal influences. But these genres don’t sound completely ripped off, the band manages to create a very solid mixture of both of them and still have a fresh sound to their music.

The guitar work is excellent having great riffs and catchy solos. The melody in the music is undeniable and is very powerful. The drumming is also top notch and flows perfectly in their own songs as well as the covers. Vocal wise is where I have a bit of an issue, since the first song “Cruel Intentions” the vocals sound a bit odd, and I don’t know the reason behind this since the vocals on the cover songs are pretty solid. The vocals on the live song are well done and sound better than on 2 new songs.

Overall, we are very impressed by this release by such young musicians and even more by the fact that they have supported Hail, Manowar, Arch Enemy among other bands. If this band keep doing their thing they will surely be recognized by their efforts soon enough. So you better grab this release while it’s hot, and be there since the beginning of what might be another of the future ‘classic’ bands that everybody will be talking about.
