Arryan Path – Terra Incognita (2010)

cover

Arryan Path is the second band we review from Cyprus this week and this one is a way better than the last one we did. The band plays Epic Power Metal with some hints of Middle Eastern influences like Orphaned Land does.

“Terra Incognita” is the band’s second release, and it’s a pretty solid one. This album comes to us as a surprise, especially after the last 10 Power Metal albums we have received sound exactly the same. Arryan Path has a very unique feeling to their music and this is what makes them stand out from the rest.

The Egyptian theme behind this release quickly caught our attention, since it’s of personal historic interest and we have rarely seen it used for metal music, with the exception of Nile. This is one of the many features that made us be excited about listening to what this band had to propose, and made us love “Terra Incognita”.

The band does a great job at creating traditional sounding Power Metal anthems that will surely make you wonder if you are not listening to any other big name Power Metal bands instead of Arryan Path. The band has such maturity in their sound that each song is perfectly crafted to blow you away. Vocalist Nicholas Leptos has an amazing voice that carries the music to a whole new level of epicness.

All the guitar melodies are very well arranged to give that powerful and yet melodic sound that Power Metal releases need, and the solos are perfectly crafted at the right moments. All this paired with tight drumming and powerful (but subtle) keyboard arrangements make “Terra Incognita” a very solid release that is both powerful and epic.

If you love bands like Angra, Raphsody of Fire, Sonata Arctica, etc. and if you are picky about the vocals in Power Metal, you can’t get any better than this. Arryan Path has released a very solid release that will be hard to improve upon.
