Top weird Metal releases of 2016

Here we present what we at Infernal Masquerade think have been the most interesting 'Weird' Metal releases of 2016. By weird we mean bands that push the boundaries on Experimental / Avant-garde Metal or that managed to mix genres in a way that it didn't fit in any of our other lists.

Honorable Mention: Necromonkey – The Shadow of the Blind Man (2016)

Being weird is something that Necromonkey perfectly relates to with their crafty and playful music.

Honorable Mention: Tusmörke - Fort Bak Lyset (2016)

Contuning their path into musical madness, this Norwegian outfit perfectly blends Psychedelic/Folk/Progressive Rock/Metal into a very odd and entertaining release.

5. VIII – Decathexis (2016)

Pushing the boundaries of Avant-garde Black Metal, this release will surely entretain you from start to end.

4. Freitod - Der unsichtbare Begleiter (2016)

Mixing Depressive Black Metal with Alternative Rock, this very unique release definitely feels a bit weird but the amazing kind of weird.

3. The Body – No One Deserves Happiness (2016)

Mixing Sludge with some Drone influences to deliver one of the most punishing releases of 2016, The Body continues with their mission of aural abuse.

2. Aenaon – Hypnosophy (2016)

Taking the scene by surprise, this Greek outfit delivers their most mature and musically experimental release to date. If you like Emperor, Ihsahn, Arcturus and Sigh, this album features elements from all of them.

1. Todtgelichter – Rooms (2016)

Constantly evolving over time Todtgelichter delivered in 2016 their finest release to date. Featuring a very unique signature style, this band should be recognized for their experimental bravery.
