Suicidal Tendencies – No Mercy Fool! / The Suicidal Family (2010)

cover

As the second Suicidal Tendencies release of 2010, we have today “No Mercy Fool!/The Suicidal Family”. This release features re-recorded songs from their “Join the Army” release of 87 and a few songs (three to be precise) of Mike Clark’s and Mike Muir’s side project No Mercy.

With the re-vamped recordings we get a nice up-to date sound to the “Join the Army” tracks and three powerful No Mercy songs get a bigger spotlight in this 2010 release. Immediately we can notice that the music sounds better than ever and that this whole release has the Suicidal vibe all the way.

As a Suicidal Tendencies fan, you should know exactly what to expect from their music: powerful Thrash influenced riffs paired with Punk-ish Drumming and crazy guitar work, all lined up with a vibrant bass guitar line. The band’s musical quality has never been doubted and now with a bigger production behind their sound, every release they put out with older songs sounds very vibrant and full of little elements to enjoy.

The biggest highlight for fans of the band will be “Possessed to Skate” a classic Crossover/Thrash anthem that has been properly re-vamped to sound brilliantly, especially the relentless bass guitar line and the powerful drumming. We can also hear that Mike Muir’s singing pipes are as good as in the early years of the band.

Songs like “I Feel Your Pain… and I Survive” will surely remind all fans of the band that Suicidal has very strong Thrash metal influences and that they can sound like Exodus and similar bands at some times. But with tracks like “Join the St Army”, Suicidal has groovy elements that makes them very versatile and appealing to a broader audience. The bass guitar and regular guitar work in this release is very nicely highlighted by the production. The drumming is also very crisp, creating a very solid foundation for the intricately designed tracks that will get you moving in no tieme.

If you are an old fan of the band, you will greatly enjoy this re-recording of older material and with the upgraded production values they will become some of your favorite Suicidal tracks once again. If you are a new fan of the band, this release will surely get you more up-to-date on how the band climbed the musical ranks in the 80’s to become one of the premier Crossover/Thrash Metal bands in history. A must have release for anybody that likes the relentless musical assault that Suicidal brings to the table.
