My Inner Burning – Eleven Scars (2011)

cover

Jumping into the female-fronted Gothic Metal arena, today we have My Inner Burning and their second full-length “Eleven Scars”. Led by the strong voice of Rebekka Gaber, this band has a golden opportunity to get noticed by being with the label SPV.

Being nothing revolutionary and just adding another different sounding vocalist to genre, we believe that My Inner Burning might not really make a break in the scene and most people will call them out due to their shortcomings.

Opening the album we have “Masquerade”, a very traditional sounding track that easily goes un-noticed. Their approach is very typical, pounding guitar riffs, female vocals, some harsh screams, repeat. While the riffing is powerful and aggressive, there is nothing else really worth taking notes about. The second track “Analyze” moves a bit faster, but still retains this formulaic approach.

We get some electronic elements here and there, but nothing really noticeable. At least the band does not go full-on Amaranthe and tries to drown the listeners with an over-produced sound; My Inner Burning is still a Metal band after all. The ballad “When I’m Gone” is probably our favorite song since it showcases Rebakka’s vocals very nicely and the atmospheric elements give it a somber feeling when paired with the acoustic elements.

The rest of the album follows with very typical songs, and besides a few interesting riffs and melodic sections here and there, there is not much to it. The band’s music is catchy and a little above average, but nothing really stands out too much. In general, “Eleven Scars” is a ‘sufficiently average’ release that you can buy if you have money to spare.
