Origin – Entity (2011)

cover

Origin has arrived with their highly anticipated follow up to 2008’s “Antithesis” and with brand new vocalist Jason Keyser joining the ranks as well they prove to be an unstoppable force of brutality. The onslaught of double-pedal drumming and shredding riffs joined by death metal growls and shrieks is enough to make your head explode like that one scene in Scanners but is it enough to hold your attention? These are all highly talented musician but there is the repetition factor that might turn off the listener.

“Entity” explodes from the beginning with a searing guitar lead, pummeling drums and ferocious vocals. There’s no doubt that each member carries a unique talent with technical precision but it doesn’t appear like they’ve taken any significant steps forward, then again some say they don’t need to. “The Decent” brings in a nice interlude with an echoing instrumental before we return to the chaos. “Committed” delivers some of the most insane guitar work that I’ve heard in a long time and will possibly have you bleeding from your ears.

This is no do doubt a great album delivered by quality musicians, at the end of day some might realize that this is not quite as gripping as “Antithesis” and that probably won’t bother most. If you’re looking for something that carries intense speed and brutality then “Entity” is definitely for you!
