Einvera – In Your Image (2011)

cover

With the hundreds of self-released albums we have these days; it is very hard to find one that we actually want to keep listening to for more than 2 hours. Einvera’s “In Your Image” is one of those albums that has commanded more play time in order to fully digest what the band is proposing with their very unique sound.

Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Einvera is the real deal when it comes to musicianship and interesting combination of genres. The band goes from Melodic Death/Black Metal to weirder Folk/Progressive/Avant-garde influences that will have you scratching your head in moments, but will make you impatiently wait to hear what they come up with next.

“In Your Image” starts with the aggressive “Static Ascension”, a very interesting song that features Folk-ish sounding elements with interesting tempo changes. Straight from a Robert Rodriguez soundtrack, “Let in Without a Name” opens in a very untraditional manner and quickly explodes into total catchiness. The melodic sections are brilliant and the deranged vocals/instrument combinations give this song that extra ‘Avant-garde’ edge that most bands are missing nowadays.

The weirdness keeps going with songs like “Invariably Transient”, “Send Me Home” and “Prismatic Distortion”, leaving the listener with nice ethereal slowdown sections and random speedups that border in madness. Our favorite song has to be “In Your Image”, one of the truly weirdest songs we have heard in quite a while. Both closing songs “The Gift of a Ghost” and “A Mausoleum for the Living” keep the Avant-garde side of things going and put an end to a truly distressing, but equally excellent release.

The three band members Grant, Zac and Mike have managed to create a collection of songs that incorporate countless influences and feature many musical instruments that some might say are not to be used together like this. However, the magic behind “In Your Image” is very real and will surely gather them attention from labels specializing in weird stuff like this. If you like Arcturus, Transcending Bizarre and similar bands, give Einvera a try, you will not be disappointed.
