Progenie Terrestre Pura - Promo 2011 (2011)

Hailing from Italy, today we have a short-but-sweet promo release that will grant this band some momentum before the release of their full-length album. Having never met, Eon[0] and Nex[1] (computer nerds maybe?) formed Progenie Terrestre Pura and have been working digitally over the last few years.

With the two tracks presented in this promo, the band nicely mixes Black Metal with a hefty dose of trippy atmospheric and electronic elements. We wouldn’t go as afar as calling this Post-Black Metal (the guitar work does not indicate this), but they are surely creative enough to clearly stray away from the ‘traditional’ side of things.

“Progenie Terrestre Pura” is the first track of this release and it nicely builds up with spacey atmospheric elements at the beginning and ‘mellow’ Black Metal riffing. The ‘drumming’ sounds a bit stiff and it is probably a drum machine. The Black Metal sections are a bit typical, but with the nice atmosphere you can easily oversee them and take in the song as a whole. Clocking at 10 minutes, this track shows a nice progression in terms of the music and the emotions conveyed through it.

The second track “Sinapsi Divelte” opens with powerful atmospheric elements and feels very ethereal until the guitars appear. Simple and catchy riffing and the surprising clean vocals give this track a very different feeling from the first one, and make it our favorite. While we think that the atmospheric elements are pretty effective, the run of the mill Black Metal sections take away a bit from this track as well. Maybe if the band focused more time on fitting the ‘aggressive’ elements into their very well crafted core, they could be unstoppable.

In general, the two songs presented in this promo show a promising band that knows how to create atmosphere and maintain it. While the Black Metal sections are a bit ‘too traditional’, with some work they can sound better incorporated into the spacey feeling of the music.
