Vanderbuyst – In Dutch (2011)

cover

As a very entertaining ‘blast-from-the-past’, today we have Vanderbuyst and their latest release “In Dutch”. In this release, the band returns with eight hard-hitting and hard-rocking songs that will immediately command your attention. If you are a fan of 70’s Hard Rock with a little Metal twist, this release will have you raving for the next few months.

Opening with catchy riffing and very effective vocals, “Black and Blue” delivers the perfect opener for a very memorable release. The chorus section is very simple and super catchy, a signature of these types of songs. The guitar solos are also another thing to notice since they are all perfectly placed through the track. Moving into more melodic and catchier territory, “Into the Fire” is our favorite song of this release due to its epic opening section. The paring of guitar solos, pounding bass guitar line and the overall melody of this the opener of this track makes it magical.

Relying on simple-yet-effective song structures, Vanderbuyst drills through power hits like “Anarchistic Storm”, “String of Beads” and “Leaving the Living”, all very good and catchy. The whole retro/analog sound behind this album makes it very clean and allows the band to really shine. If you listened to this record band in the day, you would not be able to tell that it was from 2011. The vocal in tracks likes “Read the Fields” make you almost want to immediately start chanting alongside such epic chorus sections and powerful leads.

Closing the album in a somewhat ‘experimental’ manner, “Where’s that Devil” has a bit of a southern edge and a very effective slower tempo. The vocals sound very interesting and give a completely different direction to this track when compared to the rest of the album. The guitar work is still very well crafted, but it sounds very weird at first, but once you get used to it you will love it. This is a very interesting closing track that might show what direction the band will be taking in the future with their very retro sound.

If you are a fan of old-school Hard Rock, you are guaranteed to find this release very entertaining and quite well crafted. Vanderbuyst does a great job in keeping things simple and sounding authentic, while carving their name in musical history. We are looking forward to see where this band takes their sound and how many more super-catchy anthems they will produce in their career.
