Destinity – Resolve in Crimson (2012)

cover

Delivering their best album to date, today we have France’s Destinity and their 8th studio album “Resolve in Crimson”. Having evolved from Black Metal to Thrash Metal to Melodic Death Metal as of recently, this band turns in nine riff-tastic tracks that will draw them comparisons to bands like Dark Tranquility, Night In Gales, and Nightrage just to name a few.

Opening with the melodic anthem “Black Sun Rising”, the band’s riffing skills make this song shine since the first few seconds. This track delivers a healthy dosage of solid riffs and very well crafted clean vocal sections that make this song very catchy. Not losing track of their heavier side, “Reap my Scars” comes off a bit more aggressive but with equal melodic catchiness, making it another very solid momentum building track.

After the pummeling tracks “Aiming a Fist in Emnity”, “Can’t Stand the Sight”, and “A Scent of Sconr”, our favorite track, “Redshift” makes its way amidst a riffing war. In this highly entertaining track, the band delivers some catchy guitar work and very solid clean vocal sections that greatly complement the aggressive nature of the track. The band excels at combining perfectly timed sections of intense riffing with some slower guitar acrobatics passages.

The atmospheric “Only Way”, comes in at close second favorite thanks to its solid keyboards and a slower pace. In a released filled with intricate guitar work and solid drumming, we are quite pleased that the band manages to keep delivering unique and fresh sounding music song after song. As the album nears its end, “The Hatred” provides one last dose of the band’s catchy melodies and excellent songwriting skills.

Greatly improving over “XI Reasons to See”, Destinity has managed to produce a nine track effort that many bands would wish as the best release in their careers. We have seen the evolution of the band throughout their career and with their potential; we can surely say that they are not even close to being done with sounding awesome. If you are a fan of Melodic Death Metal and are looking for the next aural riffing assault, look no further and get “Resolve in Crimson”.
