Seed of Sadness – Seed of Sadness (2012)

cover

Arriving all the way from Greece, today we have Seed of Sadness and their excellent self-released debut EP. In this self-titled release, the band delivers five tracks of super catchy female-fronted Power/Gothic Metal. With a heavy emphasis on catchy keyboards and the commanding vocals of Stellaria, this band has a very enjoyable sound that most fans of the genre will immediately fall in love with.

With the help of Bob Katsionis (Firewind) on keyboards, this band does a great job in creating lush atmospheres to lay their solid guitar work and epic vocals. Using strong and determined female vocals, Seed of Sadness has a really strong front-woman that delivers powerful performances in each track. Since the opener “Remnant of a Dying Smile”, the band blows things wide open with a highly symphonic and very energetic track that will instantly make you a fan of this band.

King of Loss” delivers another instant hit with catchy chorus sections, but most importantly very intricate guitar work. The band has a very traditional musical core, but their catchiness makes them very enjoyable and quite appealing indeed. Our favorite track in this release is the very dramatic “The Final Dance”. Since the opening mellow piano section, this track greatly revolves around the lush keyboard work and is enhanced by some solid riffs, and of course the lovely vocals. We can’t help but wonder if Seed of Sadness would be as good as they are without the immense help of Bob on keyboards.

Rounding up this release we have “Is This The Way?”, a track with a very catchy chorus sections and great sounding orchestrations, and the all-out epic “One Man’s Dream”. This last track reminds us a bit of Visions of Atlantis and similar bands that rely heavily of the symphonic side of their music and have been graced by having a very unique and firm sounding female vocalist.

From all the self-released albums we get here every month, “Seed of Sadness” is by far one of the best and most professional ones we have received in quite a while. The band has a very bombastic sound, that while not extremely original, it is excellently executed and with the help of an excellent keyboardist like Bob Katsionis they sound like a veteran band with tens of releases under their belt. Aside from the key, the band also has a very solid guitar player and a very firm vocalist in Stellaria. It will be interesting to hear how they fare for themselves in the next release and see if they continue to have such a lush and commanding sound.
