Vermis Mortem – Evil Never Dies (2014)

cover

Hailing from Brazil today we have the raw brutality of Vermis Mortem. Delivering their “Evil Never Dies” demo, this band showcases their savage Black Metal reminding us of a mixture of Dark Throne, (old) Samael, and Celtic Frost. Featuring an onslaught of five tracks, this demo will leave you with a decent amount of expectations from this band.

Opening with a bone-chilling intro, the release finally spews its filth with the crushing “I Hate The World”. Being excellently produced, this track immediately blasts away with hectic drums and demonic vocals. The riffing is quite rudimentary and raw, more like older Black/Death Metal than your typical BM tremolo picking of these days. The brutality continues with the imposing “Genocide (Evil Never Dies)”, a track that starts with the bombing sirens of WWII to give it a crazy chilling effect.

The band closes this release with the atmospheric opening of “On The Dark Planes of Existence”. The riffing here is top notch and completely old-school, very well complemented by the crystal clear drumming. With a little punkish edge to it, this track reminds us of a cleaner sounding old-school Dark Throne. Overall, “Evil Never Dies” is one hell of a calling card for Vermis Mortem. If they keep up the good work, we have no doubts this band will kickly get noticed. If you like filthy and raw destructive Black Metal, this is one release you should get.
