Absu - Absu (2009)

It’s been a while since I’ve heard from this black metal band from Texas, and they are returning with full strength to recover their place among the best of their genre. Their style is a peculiar mix of black and trash metal that reminds me of the old school trash releases from years ago, with interesting overtones of black metal elements.

This album takes you by assault since it starts with fast-paced melodies that hold you and don’t let go.

There are some progressive elements mixed in-between some of the songs, which only show the maturity that Absu has achieved over the years. Also the drumming style - while it is not similar to previous albums (the drummer had an accident was without drumming for a while), it sounds more compact and well defined.

This clearly marks the return of Absu, and they are touring through the US to ensure their new opus is heard, be sure to catch them live, or at least buy this album if you are a fan, since it can’t get any better than this.
