Black Breath – Heavy Breathing (2010)

cover

Relatively unknown Black Breath is ready to storm the scene with their very aggressive release “Heavy Breathing”. The band combines Trash, Death, and Crust-punk in a very random way, producing a very powerful sound that will grab you by the throat since track one.

For a relatively young band, Black Breath does a great job in having a perfect Crossover sound that only a few bands can pull off. All songs feature great intensity and relentless riffing, showing their Trash meddle. “Heavy Breathing” is a very solid first effort from a band that shows great potential for the future.

Being pioneers in the genre since their conception, Cathedral keeps pushing the envelope when it comes to their releases. With “The Guessing Game” the band pushes more on the psychedelic and progressive rock area, but never leaving behind their groovy riffs that we all love from them.

All tracks have at least a few riffs that will make the head banging start, and they are very well packaged with intensive drumming and furious screams. The vocals while not close to Death Metal, they have a nice Trash/Punk sound to then, making them very intense.

All of the 40 minutes of music in “Heavy Breathing” are well spent, leaving not a single dull minute in this release. There are some hints to old-school Swedish DM here and there, all well mixed with the band’s other influences. This makes “Heavy Breathing” one of the most different albums we have heard in quite a while.

Overall, “Black Breath” is a pretty solid release for this up and coming band from the Seattle area. If you like Crossover music, you will definitely dig this release.
