Dreams of Gray - The World After (2023)

Hailing from the USA, today we have one-man outfit Dreams of Gray presenting us with their debut EP “The World After”. Featuring three songs of catchy and engaging Melodic Metal that incorporates elements from Thrash, Doom, Heavy Metal, this release is quite a solid, but short, introduction to the band.

Opening with “Performance V Justice'' the listener quickly gets old-school Thrashy riffs infused with Melodic Death Metal elements. While we enjoy the music a lot, the clean vocals still need some work. Unleashing hell, “Life in Gray” has a more intense approach, with some crafty melodic guitars and engaging tempo changes. There is definitely talent for creating engaging riffs and interesting genre combinations in these tracks.

The closer, “The World After”, starts a bit weird, but nicely gets back on track when the distorted guitars and growls come into the picture. There is definitely some work to do as some vocals don’t really fit all the time, and the transition between cleans and growls feels a bit too abrupt, but for a debut EP this is fine. Overall, “The World After” shows some interesting elements musically, and with some additional tweaks and maturity, Dreams of Gray should be crafting great music in the future.
