Oblivium Regnum - Zrádce (2023)

cover

It has been a while since we received a physical promo CD, and luckily for us it was from this promising Czech band Named Oblivium Regnum. With their EP titled “Zrádce”, the band showcases four diverse and equally engaging tracks. Showing that the Czech Republic is not only good at making beer and having some awesome festivals, shout out to Brutal Assault, they have some very interesting bands that nicely combine old-school elements with a raw and direct take to unleash some crafty Melodic Death Metal songs.

The EP starts with “Břetislav a Jitka”, a track that nicely blends female vocals with melodic guitars, somewhat of a mixture of Dark Lunacy meets Insomnium. This opening track, and the album title track, also have a heavier and old-school vibe to itself, reminding us of the early days of Gothic/Melodic Death Metal from the Netherlands.

With a more direct and chuggy Death Metal vibe “Homburg” and its crafty guitar leads, and the melancholy Doominess of “Poslední bitva” nicely close this short but sweet release. We particularly enjoyed how the band blends in a plethora of different influences in a very creative and engaging way. While the band does not have a signature sound, it does have a solid foundation of timeless elements and solid musicianship to build towards the future.
