Broken Mirrors – Strong Enough (2010)

cover

Hailing from France, today we have a very interesting EP from an unusual band that has a very fresh sound. Mixing some Thrash Metal influences with Melodic Death Metal elements and Children of Bodom like vocals “Strong Enough” is a short, yet effective release from a band that has great potential.

The first thing that will pop out is the funky sounding keyboards, while they are very good, something just sounds weird about them. This alone will quickly grab you attention and make you interested in the band’s sound. They create nice a atmosphere that sounds very lush, but due to a low production budget they sound a bit too high in the mix. Not that we are complaining, but we just find it a bit odd.

With two original songs and two cover songs, Broken Mirrors will quickly grab your attention with their dynamic sound. The band’s guitar work is an interesting mixture of some Thrash Metal riffs with overlaying Melodic DM structures, creating a very interesting sound. The band’s bombastic approach to music is very lush and the keyboards create a thick atmosphere that is very enjoyable for people that like Melodic bands.

In the band’s cover songs they provide their own interpretation of Offspring’s “The Kid’s Aren’t Alright” and the Sex Pistols “Anarchy in the UK”, we particularly enjoyed both covers since the band makes them their own and with their keyboards they come to life in a very unique fashion. We can even say that the covers are what made this EP more enjoyable.

In general, “Strong Enough” is a pretty solid EP, but with only two songs you can’t get a full feeling for what the band is all about. We particularly enjoyed their original songs and can’t wait until they release a full-length album in the near future.
