Impiety – Ravage & Conquer (2012)

cover

Recently signed to Pulverised records, today we have Impiety and their eight full-length released titled “Ravage & Conquer”. Feeling like a bag of bricks to the face, “Ravage & Conquer” delivers some of the most brutal music Impiety has ever written. Pummeling through eight furiously paced tracks, this is one release that no fan of this band would want to miss.

Opening like an epic soundtrack to some medieval battle, the guitars blast through things and the punishing drumming indicates that Impiety has arrived. “Revelation Decimation” is the 8 minute opener that delivers waves of brutal onslaughts of hellish vocals and crushing riffs. The band’s sound is cleaner than in previous releases and the overall feeling is very chaotic and brutal… just what the doctor ordered. Steamrolling with “Ravage & Conquer”, “Weaponized” and “The Scourge Majesty”, this release is off to a very brutal and intense start, not to mention several 8+ minute long anthems of destruction.

The band has never been known for being extremely original and while most of the songs sound very similar, the sheer brutality and intensity of them is something that makes Impiety standout from the rest. The riffing is well crafted and very commanding, the drumming is super brutal and the singing is as close to what we imagine a demon would sound like, making the band one of the most brutal and yet listenable (and enjoyable) outfits in the world.

Our favorite track of this release has to be the hectic “Legacy of Savagery”. Clocking around eight minutes, this song delivers super-fast drumming with a very nice and clean production. The riffing is nicely designed and while a bit repetitive it is very effective. With never a dull moment, this release closes with “Salve the Goat” and “Sacrifice”, two very entertaining songs that keep the momentum going and by the time they are over you will feel like a hurricane passed through your head.

Impiety keeps delivering powerful and exciting releases, and now with a better production, the brutality of “Ravage & Conquer” is nicely outlined. If you like their previous releases, this is one you should not miss since it is definitely the most brutal album they have released… to date.
