Azure Emote – The Gravity of Impermanence (2013)

cover

As the brainchild of Mike Hrubovcak (Monstrosity, etc) today we have the totally wacked out second full-length release of Azure Emote titled “The Gravity of Impermanence”. Featuring 14 tracks and around 60 minutes of very chaotic and somewhat odd music, this release will have listeners at the end of their seats waiting to hear what is coming up next. Mixing all kinds of styles, both musically and vocally, this is one very complex album that takes a bit to sink in.

Opening with the strange “Epoch of De-Evolution”, you immediately know that this is one of those albums that will keep you confused. Immediately we start to draw comparisons to bands like Sigh, Unexpect, etc, where you don’t really know where the album is going until you decide to give up and just enjoy the weirdness. “Carpe Diem” is quite a good example of this weirdness with haunting vocals and the excellent signature violin contribution of Pete Johansen.

Our first favorite track comes under the name of “Conduit of Atrophy” a very cohesive piece that mixes just enough chaos with powerful riffs and Mike’s killer growls. The drumming is quite complex and pretty solid in this track and through the release. Having a very old school Tristania vibe, “Veils of Looming Despair” is another excellent track. The funky futuristic arrangements in a track like “Dissent” are quite contrasting and we have to say that the overall pace of it is just a bit disappointing; the same can be said about “Annunaki Illuminati”.

Closing with another solid track in “Puppet Deities”, we have to say that we enjoyed most of this release but there are a few very chaotic moments when things are just too disconnected to be fully enjoyed. We are huge fans of weird and genre-bending Metal music and Azure Emote does a solid job in delivering the goods in this department. If you like weird stuff like Sigh and Unexpect mixed in with some crushing Death Metal influences, look no further and pick-up your copy of “The Gravity of Impermanence”.
