The Body – Master, We Perish (2013)

cover

One of the weirdest and most sonically abusive bands to hail from the USA, The Body, returns with a three-song EP titled “Master, We Perish” that promises to be as weird as any of their previous releases. With their crushing Sludge Metal, this two-piece band delivers 18 minutes of pure aural filth that will have all fans of the genre going ape-shit about this album.

Quickly opening with some WWII sirens, “The Ebb And Flow Of Tides In A Sea of Ash” immediately makes the raw sound of The Body felt present. The harsh and very brutal guitar work is perfectly crushing and the droning drums are just there to make things even more confusing. Sounding like something that Merzbow would have produced… while on crack, this track is quite brutal and relentless.

“The Blessed Lay Down and Writhe In Agony” keeps things going with a very eerie introduction featuring heavenly choirs and very minimalistic guitar sections. The song slowly transforms into very raw and quite straightforward guitar/drums onslaughts that keep intensifying until the crushing end. The vocals are quite hellish (as always) and add that extra layer of WTF to the already very disturbing music. The closer “Worship” experiments with some odd percussions and very weird sounds here and there, the perfect mixture for another horrific musical experience.

As always, The Body pushes the boundary of sanity with their music and “Master, We Perish” is no exception. The band’s experimental Sludge music is both crushing and quite disturbing and everybody that is familiar to the band should expect no less. If you like Sludge and don’t mind an extra dosage of weird in your music, be sure to check this one out on At A Loss Recordings.
