Destruktor – Nailed (2009)

cover

It’s hard to find good bands these days, especially out of the ones trying to play old school style music. Since most people playing that music nowadays were not even born when Celtic Frost, Venom and Bathory had their moment to shine.

Destruktor hailing from Australia does a great job in capturing the sound of those times and bringing it back to our ears for a lesson in ‘classical metal’ music. The band features a very interesting mix of old school Death and Black Metal that will never get old (if it’s well executed).

The vocalist, Glenn Destruktor, has very traditional sounding pipes a bit monotonous in my opinion, but they get the job done perfectly. The guitar work is pretty standard for a release of this nature, and has an interesting combination of some Trash and Death metal riffs, with a few solos thrown here and there, creating a very traditional sound. All of this is perfectly rounded off with some very solid and compact drumming; all tempo changes are done brilliantly.

The albums overall volume is a bit low when compared to other releases and made me have to turn the volume knob a few hint higher than I usually do, but once this is fixed the listening experience is not disturbed by this. The mixing of this release favors the guitars a bit, but you can still enjoy the massive drumming and vocals.

“Nailed” features 10 tracks of old school Death/Black Metal that will make you get nostalgic since they get the feeling of that time perfectly. So if you grew up with good metal and want that feeling back get Destruktor’s first full-length, you wont be disappointed one bit.
