Annotations Of An Autopsy - The Reign Of Darkness (2010)

cover

Today from the UK we get Annotations Of An Autopsy a handful or pissed off Brits that have taken the Death Metal scene in the UK as their own and made it their bitch. After their some what weak debut album “Before the Throne of Infection”, the band is back with their latest aural assault and is a big improvement.

“The Reign Of Darkness” features 11 tracks of Death Metal at it’s most brutal. Filled with meaty hooks and catchy riffs, this album is ready to blow your head clear off.

The album starts off with very brutal tracks and it never let’s go, something that I found refreshing about this band is that in some tracks they have very melodic and a little ‘slower’ parts but only to come back and attack your ears mercilessly.

Like I mentioned, the riffs are pretty solid and catchy, like anybody would expect of an inspired DM release. The drumming is very tight and goes into full gear when all the elements are being directed in full aggression. The bass guitar has a few highlights here and there but it’s not a crucial factor for this band.

One of the most brutal element the band features are the growls of Mr. Sewer Mouth, they always strong enough to handle any riffs thrown at and sound especially good with the double kick during some songs. The vocals do get a bit monotonic but it’s not a problem since it’s a DM release and this is one of the signatures of many of the legendary bands of the genre.

Overall the band greatly improved over their first release. If they keep up their good work they can fully take on the DM scene by surprise. While nothing will replace my good old DM classic albums from Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, etc, I will be making some room for future Annotations Of An Autopsy releases.
