My Darkest Side – Death Begins (2010)

While we usually don’t like bands that play Death-core, My Darkest Side has managed to make us more open to this genre. This young band delivers a very solid 12 minute promo with “Death Begins” that will leave you wanting more.

“Death Begins” is a perfectly recorded promo release that shows that if there is a will there is a way. Nowadays unsigned bands are putting out more crap music than ever, thanks to cheap recording equipment and the myspace era. But My Darkest Side manages to shine away from their competition by having a very professional promo release.

Featuring 3 tracks of very promising Death-core songs, you will be hooked on this band music since track one. Citing Black Dahlia Murder and Lamb of God as their main influences, the band does a great job of mixing the styles of these two bands and making it their own.

The riffing on this album is very solid and powerful. The songs are very well structured and never get dull. We are very surprised by the band’s ability to write catchy melodies and fill them up with enough aggression to please any metal head.

In the 12 minutes of music presented in this release you can hear what the band is all about, their level of musicianship, and their desire to be heard. If all unsigned bands produced promos of this quality, it would be a completely different world.

If you like Black Dahlia Murder, Caliban or Lamb of God, pick up this release from their website (only 5 Euros). We are pretty sure this band will soon release an equally good full-length album.
