Αχεροντας - The Seven Tongues of Δαημων (2022)

cover

Unleashing an early candidate for best Black Metal album of 2022, today we have Greece’s Αχεροντας and their highly impressive release “The Seven Tongues of Δαημων”. Featuring over 42 minutes of high-octane music, this release visits all depths of hell with its dramatic arrangements and unparalleled musicality.

The release starts with the furious “Lucifer - Breath of Fire” and its crafty layered guitars, perfectly paired with explosive vocal onslaughts and intense drumming. Immediately overwhelming the listener with a wall of sound, the melodic tempo changes are what keeps the listener on its toe as the release is quite varied and engaging, as pieces like “Leviathan - The Fervent Scales in Reverence”, “Belial - The Enn of Beliya’al”, and “Satan - Exaltation of Unbeing” showcase.

Mixing a cinematic nature with some sinister melodies, we love songs like “Choronzon - Webs of Alienation”, that truly explore the more diverse and bombastic reals of Black Metal. Our favorite track has to be the massive “Hecate - Queen of the Crossroads” and its diabolical sounding vocal arrangements alongside ravaging riffs and very melancholic tempo changes.

Closing with the enigmatic “Δρακων - Αpotheosis”, Αχεροντας has managed to deliver one of the most complete and sonically engaging Black Metal releases of 2022. With more layers than your typical release, the more you listen to each song, the more details you discover hidden, like melodic, vocal, or atmospheric nuances. If you are a fan of bands like Argentum (MEX), Dimmu Borgir, Old Man’s Child, etc. this release will be one of your favorites of the year.
