Amongst The Ashes - The Fabricated Monolith (2022)

Hailing from Finland, today we have Amongst The Ashes, a very interesting band that fuses Middle Eastern elements with a solid Melodic Death/Thrash Metal foundation. With a bit of an Orphaned Land/The Ottoman Empire vibe, “The Fabricated Monolith” provides the listener with a small sample of the band’s songwriting chops and solid execution.

After the instrumental opener “Säraghaz”, which features a setar, the band goes full-on with the catchy riffs of “Fallen from Grace”. This track reminds us of Orphaned Land in their years, circa “All is One”, with very well defined clean vocal arrangements and engaging melodies. However, not everything is melodic and mellow, as the band brings in the heat on some sections of the crafty “Exalted Traitors”, sadly the last track in this EP.

Overall, “The Fabricated Monolith” is a promising release that showcases a band finding its own unique sound, while cranking out some catchy and engaging songs. If you are fan of Orphaned Land, and even other outfits like Myrath to some extent, this release will surely catch your attention.
