Eternity - Mundicide (2023)

cover

Hailing from Norway, today we have Eternity and their latest outburst of brutality titled “Mundicide”. With tons of Black Metal bands coming out of this country, it is easy to have a few fly under the radar, and what a mistake has been in this case. The band creates a very punishing and cohesive older school BM style with some modern shine, making the 43 minutes of music in this release quite vicious and well crafted. If you are looking to add another stellar Norwegian BM outfit to your playlist, Eternity is the one you have been waiting for.

The release quickly snarls at the listener with the pummeling “Journey Towards the Darkside” and its ravaging riffing onslaughts perfectly adorned with crushing drumming. After setting the band quite high with the opener, “Under the Gaze of the King” and “Mundicide” keep the momentum going, perfectly creating a very sinister and aggressive mood. While far from being a one trick pony, the band also showcases a more melodic and atmospheric side to them with the eerie “Hymn” and its choral arrangements and the more melancholic edge of “Pest! Frykten i den andres øye”.

Featuring an old-school and even thrashy-er edge to their style, “O Discordia” has that nice feeling of a BM version of a Destruction track, but with the band’s signature sinister vibe. In general, the band fires up on all cylinders creating a very ravaging set of songs that showcase their maturity and level of polish. If you like in-your-face BM with an older edge, but filled with tons of interesting ideas, being melodic or atmospheric, this release will surely get the band a ton of new followers.
