Amorphis - Queen of Time - Live at Tavastia (2023)

Polishing their live shows over the years, Amorphis now a well oiled machine that can deliver a killer show to a packed arena, but also face-melt the crowd on more intimate club shows. For those that haven’t been able to catch the band live, their latest release: “Queen of Time - Live at Tavastia”, perfectly captures their intensity and precise delivery of their crafty music. Recorded during COVID-19 times, this live album is a testament to the bands tenacity and brilliant live showmanship.

Playing the entirety of “Queen of Time” on this CD/Blu-ray live release, the band fully executes on all bangers in this album, with highlights of songs like the epic “The Bee” to the more diverse and crafty “Grain of Sand”, all the way to our personal favorite “Amongst Stars”, with the charismatic Anneke van Giersbergen. There is a certain magic to the band’s raw live sound, where Tomi Joutsen vocals come center stage, varying between his signature deep growls and soaring clean vocals.

Masterfully blending their melodic nature with a more raw and direct take for the live setting, Amorphis has a track record of delivering epic live shows (and recording them too!). While the setting was an empty club at the time, the band didn’t seem to mind and unleashed all their energy for this occasion. If you are a fan of the band, this is yet another excellent addition to their collection as it shows them unleashing one of their best albums on a slightly different context.
