Netherdom - Forsaking, Forseeking (2023)

cover

Unleashing an extremely raw and powerful Black Metal, today we have France’s Netherdom and his solo release titled “Forsaking, Forseeking”. Featuring three songs and over 40 minutes of demoralizing music, this release is dense, punishing, and very visceral, instantly creating a feeling of unease and despair. If you are looking for something sinister, brutal, and yet quite atmospheric, look no further and get a copy of this release.

Opening with the whirlwind “Lured By All That Is Forsaken”, the mood is set quite dense thanks to a barrage of distorted guitars and pummeling drumming. The atmosphere is quite palpable and feels like it could be cut with a knife, as a riveting feeling of uneasiness sets upon the listener. While being raw and not pretty, this track also does not sound like it was recorded on a shed in the woods, but rather made this way to deliver oppression and misanthropy. A feeling that bleeds into the crushing “In the Depths of the Fog”.

Closing with the 24-minute ravaging “To Forsake Remnants Of An Existence Bereft of Meaning”, we get tremolo picking alongside crushing harsh vocals. This track reminded us a bit of Vanum/Fell Voices and their crazy intensity. We particularly enjoy the subtle tempo changes that continue inflicting pain upon the listener. As a whole, this monolithic closing track is definitely one of the most savage songs released in the last few years. Overall, we love how raw and devastating “Forsaking, Forseeking” is, not pretty, not overly polished, just direct aggression alongside crafty musical composition and furious delivery.
