i Häxa - Part 1 (2024)

cover

Unleashing a short but very interesting release, today we have i Häxa and the chaotic and yet lush “Part 1”. Featuring four songs and over 16 minutes of music, the listener is taken on an aural journey that weaves between ambient, darkwave, avant-garde, and highly atmospheric passages. If you like weird and yet cohesive and engaging releases, with no Metal elements whatsoever, give this one a spin.

A very enigmatic mood is instantly set with the chilling “Underworld” and its slow progression until it climaxes with crafty electronics and heavy atmospherics. Moving along with “Inferno”, we are treated to a more drone-ish and mysterious piece that closes in a very unsettling way. After the short atmospherics of “Last at the Table”, the most disarming piece in this release comes under the name of “Sapling”. A very solemn and slowly building piece that has more of a darkwave/dream-pop edge to it.

Overall, this release is quite engaging and unique. Yes, there is no Metal or Post-Metal here, but the atmospherics and lush vocals create a different listening experience. Out on Pelagic records, this is definitely an album that follows the lineage of truly unique bands on this label. Be sure to check it out if you like odd and unconventional music that is highly atmospheric.
