Your Tomorrow Alone – Ordinary Lives (2012)

Rounding out our most recent promo package from My Kingdom Records, today we have Your Tomorrow Alone debut full-length release “Ordinary Lives”. Mixing Gothic Metal with Doom influences, this is one of those releases that is full of emotional songs that are also very catchy and approachable by the listeners. For over 50 minutes this Italian band will surely entertain you with their well written tracks and melancholic music.

Opening with “Renaissance”, the first riffs reminded us of EvenSong’s “Path of the Angels” release since they have a similar sound to them. Combining clear vocals with growls, the band nicely creates a very solid atmosphere and keeps things standard, without needing to go to the overly abused usage of female vocals. The atmosphere keeps getting more dramatic and emotional with the powerful “Praise for nothing”. In this track, the band uses some classical elements to add more depth to their sound and this works perfectly.

The ballad-esque “Guilty” focuses more on the Gothic side of things and nicely showcases the band’s ability to create different songs, but it also shows some weakness in terms of the clean vocals since the English sounds a bit weird and the vocal harmonies are a bit odd. However, all of this is fixed when the distorted guitars come in and the growls make their appearance, saving the song graciously. One of our favorite tracks is “Far From the Sight” and its various Katatonia-esque moments, circa the “Discouraged ones” era.

“One Last Breath” is by far the most experimental track in this release due to the fact that the band opens with several atmospheric elements and comes up with a very engaging song. The same goes for the neo-folk inspired “Agony”. Saving the best for last, “In Silence” closes this release with a bang. Using keyboards similar to what Borknagar uses on their album, this song is very entertaining and typical for a Gothic Doom release, allowing the band to properly end such an excellent release.

If you are tired of all the Gothic Doom Metal release with female vocals, you should get “Ordinary Lives” a try and enjoy the excellent atmosphere created by Your Tomorrow Alone. This new band surely knows how to write engaging songs that combine both clean and guttural vocals with powerful guitars and excellent percussions. So be sure to keep an eye out for Your Tomorrow Alone in the future.
